If, like me, you do not need the “ride ahead” feature of the mod, you can easily disable it through the console:

Double-click Autorun in your mod order (below the ESSENTIAL MODS separator).
In the Text Files tab, select the Autorun.txt.
Add set hff_FollowerRideAheadEnabled to 0 below the existing lines.
Press CTRL + S to save your changes and close the window.
