Step 10 – Patchers

PATCHER

10.1 True Unleveled Skyrim - zEdit Patcher (optional)

I currently recommend skipping TUS while I rework general balancing which turned out to be quite a bit of work. Sorry!

This is a patcher for zEdit and will automatically apply its changes to all records it finds, including mod-added ones. TUS delevels the world in a way similar to Morrowloot Ultimate without requiring any patches, it implements encounter zones with set MIN and MAX levels, meaning enemies don't automatically scale to your level. This will make the game more difficult. It also includes an extremely comprehensive LOOT overhaul which goes extremely well alongside MLU's hand-placed items and crafting changes.

True Unleveled Skyrim is modular and optional. You can skip Step 10.1 if you want.

zEdit required. You should have installed it in the CORE module, Step 5.

10.1.1 Instructions

  • Download the main file here.
  • Open the downloaded archive and move the tus folder to Your Modding Folder\Tools\zEdit\modules.
  • Launch zEdit through Mod Organizer 2.
  • Click START SESSION and OK when the Load Order window comes up.

  • There is a puzzle-piece symbol in the upper right corner. Click on it.
  • If you select True Unleveled Skyrim in the list on the left, you will be able to choose which parts of the patcher you want to activate.
    • UNLEVEL ENCOUNTER ZONES – recommended
    • UNLEVEL ITEM LISTS – currently somewhat experimental as I haven’t played with it, but I would also recommend it
    • UNLEVEL NPCs – recommended
    • Leave all other options disabled for now.
  • Once you have configured the patcher, go back to Build Patches and click the blue BUILD button for TUS.

  • After generating your new TUS.esp, you can close zEdit.
  • Save the new plugin when prompted.
  • Back in MO2, double-click your Overwrite and delete everything inside execpt for the new plugin.
  • Right-click the Overwrite and select Create Mod.
  • Name your new mod True Unleveled Skyrim [Output].
  • Move the mod below the patch packs in the left pane.
  • The plugin will appear at the very bottom of your load order where you should leave it.

10.2 Know Your Enemy - zEdit Patcher (optional)

Only continue with this step if you installed Know Your Enemy.

For the new resistances and perks of Know Your Enemy to take effect, we need to redistribute them via a (modular!) zEdit patcher. Follow the instructions below.

10.2.1 Instructions

  • Launch zEdit through Mod Organizer 2.
  • Click START SESSION and OK when the Load Order window comes up.
  • There is a symbol with three cubes in the upper right corner. Click on it.
  • Select INSTALL MODULE.
  • Navigate to Mod Organizer 2\mods\Know Your Enemy\zEdit patchers and double-click KnowYourEnemyPatcher-v0.0.0.zip.
  • zEdit will notify you that a restart is necessary for the changes to be applied. Click RESTART NOW.
  • Once again, click START SESSION and OK when the Load Order window comes up.

  • There is a puzzle-piece symbol in the upper right corner. Click on it.
  • If you select Know Your Enemy Patcher in the list on the left, you will be able to customize the patcher…
    • SILVER PERK: leave this as false, AAE already reworks the silver weapons perk
    • EFFECT INTENSITY: you can lower this value to tone down creature resistances (I recommend 0.8 or lower)
      • 0.5 is forgiving enough for a playthrough with a specialised build or to generally prevent a substantial difficulty increase
  • Once you have configured the patcher, go back to Build Patches and click the blue BUILD button for the Know Your Enemy Patcher.

  • After generating your new know_your_enemy_patch.esp, you can close zEdit.
  • Save the new plugin when prompted.
  • Back in MO2, double-click your Overwrite and delete everything inside execpt for the new plugin.
  • Rght-click the Overwrite and select Create Mod.
  • Name your new mod Know Your Enemy [Output].
  • Move the mod below the patch packs (and TUS if you have it) in the left pane.
  • The plugin will appear at the very bottom of your load order where you should leave it.

10.3 Encounter Zone Level in Cell Name - zEdit Patcher (optional)

With this patcher you will see Bleakfalls Barrow (20-40+) or similar upon approaching Bleakfalls Barrow or any other interior cell entrance. This can be very helpful when playing in an unleveled world (MLU or TUS encounter zones) where it is very much possible that you will not be able to complete a dungeon.

10.3.1 Instructions

  • Download the main file here.
  • Open the downloaded archive and move the hishy-cell-encounter-level-in-name folder to Your Modding Folder\Tools\zEdit\modules.
  • Launch zEdit through Mod Organizer 2.
  • Click START SESSION and OK when the Load Order window comes up.

  • There is a puzzle-piece symbol in the upper right corner. Click on it.
  • Under Build Patches, click the blue BUILD button for Cell Encounter Levels In Name (zPatch.esp).

  • After generating your new zPatch.esp, you can close zEdit.
  • Save the new plugin when prompted.
  • Back in MO2, double-click your Overwrite and delete everything inside execpt for the new plugin.
  • Right-click the Overwrite and select Create Mod.
  • Name your new mod Encounter Zone Levels in Cell Name [Output].
  • Move the mod below the patch packs (and TUS if you have it) in the left pane.
  • The plugin will appear at the very bottom of your load order where you should leave it.
